Exhibition : August 1st to August 22nd, 2008 at The Playhouse
Toronto artist Lois Schklar is Gallery Connexion’s summer artist-in-residence for 2008. With the east and west galleries of the Fredericton Playhouse as a backdrop, Lois will use a variety of found objects, graphite drawings and various connecting materials to create three-dimensional wall drawings, exploring the formal qualities of line, space and movement.
Familiar Territory is an ongoing series utilizing urban and natural objects that Lois avidly collected or used in creating art for over twenty-five years. Part of Lois’ residency will involve collecting objects from the Fredericton area. Members of the community will contribute objects and personal experience.
Lois received her Bachelor of Fine ArtS from the Atlanta College of Art in Atlanta, Georgia. This year she received an Ontario Arts Council Mid-Career Visual Arts Grant, an OAC Travel Grant, and a Toronto Arts Council Project Grant. Recent solo exhibitions include Harcourt House Gallery in Edmonton, Alberta; White Water Gallery in North Bay, Ontario; Gallery 96 in Stratford, Ontario; and Propeller Centre for Visual Arts in Toronto, Ontario.
