0000 and Refusing to Make a Scene

Artist Residency : August 20th to September 19th, 2012

Exhibition Reception : July 19th, 2012 at 7PM

Connexion is pleased to host Pavitra Wickramasinghe and Amélie Brisson-Darveau, of Montreal-based art collective called Perte de Signal, for a residency culminating in a main space exhibition. Their collaborative project, 0000, combines both artists’ individual interests to create an animation installation that incorporates motorized thaumatropes that present a spectacle of dance.

During their residency at Connexion, they will be working on another collaborative piece called Refusing to Make a Scene. Inspired by 19th-century phantasmagoric artist Martin Engelbrecht, the piece invites the viewer to become a part of the miniature theatre they’ve created. Both artists are interested in the notion of shadow as a physical presence, an optical phenomena, and as a metaphor.
