Our next Crit Night event, held in partnership with our friends at Charlotte Street Arts Centre will take place on Tuesday June 16 with guest artists Charles Harding and Katie Hamill.
Charles Harding is a sound artist and composer based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. His work grows out of deep listening and a desire to build empathy toward natural spaces and non-human interconnections. Trained in electroacoustic studies at Concordia University (BFA 2022), Harding often works with field recordings and environmental sound as a way of mapping memory and place. His projects frequently take him into rural and remote settings, where listening becomes a way of building connection to landscapes and communities he might not otherwise encounter.
Katie Hamill (she/they) is a multidisciplinary artist and doctoral candidate. Her visual art practice places a contemporary lens on traditional feminine craft – weaving, rug hooking, crochet, zine making and home cooking – often examining gender identity and expression. When Katie isn’t creating art, you can find her working behind the scenes at FLOURISH Festival, Shivering Songs, and The Cap, or hanging out with her delightfully unpleasant cat, Penny.

What are Crit Nights, you may ask? A Crit Night (critique night) is a gathering where artists, designers, and creatives present their works-in-progress or finished projects to peers, professionals, or the public to receive constructive feedback, foster dialogue, and build community.
