Connexion Exchange Mentorship: Lucy and Andrea

Connexion ARC announces the fourth mentorship of Connexion Exchange: Lucy Koshan and Andrea Mortson

Lucy Koshan and Andrea Mortson, the fourth mentorship pair of Connexion Exchange, are currently working together.

Connexion Exchange is a 3-month mentorship program pairing nine emerging and mid-career New Brunswick artists with established Canadian art mentors for one-on-one mentorship. This program began in June 2021 and will continue into this summer.  Mentorships will be completed online or in person, if possible. This program will culminate in a joint artist talk and the creation of an artwork. Over the course of each mentorship, updates of the pairs’ work will be shared. The gallery exhibition will take place after all the mentorships have been completed in the Fall of 2022.

Lucy Koshan is a 2D visual artist living in Sackville, New Brunswick. Lucy’s practice centers on figurative painting and drawing, and uses genre paintings, portraits and narrative series to explore tensions between normative standards and personal experience, as well as the alienation of living in an image-based social media culture. Lucy holds a foundation year certificate from the Yukon School of Visual Arts and a BFA from Mount Allison University, and has been the recipient of the BMO 1st! Art Award for the Yukon Territory (2014), the John P. Asimakos prize in painting (Mount Allison University, 2018), and multiple New Brunswick Art Board Creation Grants. Lucy was the Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s Studio Watch: Painting artist in 2020.

Andrea Mortson is a Canadian painter and collage artist located in Sackville, New Brunswick. She is committed to exploring the unknowable and facilitating journeys into shared dreamscapes. Her work was included in the Oh, Canada exhibition (Mass MoCA) and La Projet Peinture, a survey of contemporary Canadian painting (Galerie de l’UQAM), and is in the permanent collections of the Canada Council Art Bank, New Brunswick Art Bank, BMO Financial Group, Global Affairs Canada, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Confederation Centre Art Gallery (PEI), and Owen’s Art Gallery (Sackville, NB).

Stay tuned for dates of the mentorships, talks and other special events at connexionarc.org.
